Beginning in 1998, workshops dedicated to a special field were incorporated
to the programme of the MIDEM Conferences. During the workshop, five to seven
invited speakers present papers on the chosen topics from different aspects
within their special field, thus offering the audience valuable information.
Time for thorough discussions is provided between invited presentations.
Attendance at the workshop is included in the Conference registration fee.
For the year 2005, we are pleased to announce a
Design for the environment and for environmental management systems is not new
to the electronics sector. However, the EU legislation RoHS Directive
(Restriction of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment) and
WEEE Directive (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) requires that all
electrical equipment on sale in Europe from 1 July 2006 has to be “green”. The
change to lead-free and halogen-free materials is affecting the global
marketplace, motivating all manufacturers and suppliers to eliminate lead and
halogen materials from their products. This Workshop will bring together
international experts from this and related fields to exchange ideas and to
discuss these subjects and to help, in particular, small and medium-sized
enterprises to meet future challenges in the field of environmentally benign
electronics.
The workshop is jointly organized by MIDEM – Society for Microelectronics,
Electronic Components and Materials, Ljubljana, Slovenia, by the Chamber of
Commerce and Industry of Slovenia, and Electronics and Electrical Engineering
Association, Ljubljana, Slovenia.
The programme of the Workshop on “Green Electronics” will consist of several invited papers and several regular papers which will discuss the following subjects:
- Lead-free soldering: Materials and processes
- European and Slovenian policy/legalisation on hazardous materials and recycling in the electronics industry
- Reliability aspects of new materials and technologies in the electronics industry
- Production issues with special attention on lead-free soldering production
- Recycling and other environmental considerations in the electronics industry
The key topics will be presented by eminent experts in the above-mentioned fields. The speakers, from different European research organisations, are:
- Prof. Michael Pecht, University of Maryland, College Park, MD 20742, USA
- Janez Renko, Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia, Ljubljana, Slovenia
- Dr. Krystyna Bukat and Dr. Grazyna Koziol, Tele and Radio Research Institute, Warsaw, Poland
- Dr. Karl Heinz Zuber, Fraunhofer Institute FhG-IZM, Berlin, Germany
- Prof. Zdzislaw Drozd, Warsaw University of Technology, Warsaw, Poland
- Prof. Dr. Pavel Mach, Czech Technical University in Prague, Prague, Czech Republic
